The Perfume Pagoda – Hanoi

The Perfume Pagoda is well locally known Huong pagoda, is one of the best temples represented for a very admirable site featuring a world of mainly Buddhist temples constructed into the limestone cliffs of Huong Tich.

At the center of this pagoda is Huong pagoda or this temple in the cave. The Perfume pagoda is a huge complex of Buddhist temples and shrines built into the limestone Perfume mountains. It is the site of a religious festival which draws large numbers of pilgrims from across Vietnam.

The centre of the Perfume Temple lies in Huong Son Commune, My Duc district, former Hà Tây Province (now hanoi). The centre of this complex is the Perfume Temple, also known as Inner Temple, located in Huong Tich Cave.

Nobody knows which year this temple was built but it has a theory that it was constructed here in the 15th century, although legend declares that the site was actually discovered over 2,000 years ago by a Buddhist monk who was meditating nearby.

The most beautiful of this pagoda is the mountain foothills where are an area of pretty natural and spiritual beauty filled with streams, tropical plants and temples.

There are many pagodas to visit, each offering a different shrine, most of which are Buddhist although one or two are animist.

The Perfume Pagoda draws pilgrims and tourists seeking good luck and peace in their mind from the Buddha or the others and stalactites inside the cave which have been named according to the individual blessing they can bestow. Dun Tien offers to become rich and luck in finance and Nui Co offers the chance of having a baby for a new couple whilst Dun Gao translates as a ‘rice stack’ to those hoping for a bountiful harvest.

The Perfume Pagoda Highlights 

The entrance of Perfume Pagoda is so huge and mysterious and Huong Tich Cave resembles that of an open dragon’s mouth and is adorned in ancient Chinese letters written dates back to 1770 until now and means that this the the best first cave of Vietnam.-

Statues are decorated the inside of the cave and it is a place where tourists pray for peace and happiness for a year, especially Quan Am, Phat Ba Quan Am Nghin Mat Nghin Tay. Smooth stalactites and stalagmites are also put in the cave which are continuously touched by wayfarers trusting them to receive wonder and good luck. You can not imagine the crowded environment of perfume pagoda in the special festival every year from January to April.

Perfume pagoda is built in the small mountain so you can walk gradually to look at the beautiful landscape of Vietnam to have stranger experience, that is a fantastic view of Vietnam. Moreover you can come to some temples to see within the complex comprise the Vong Temple, Thuyet Kinh Cave and Thien Son Pagoda.

The journey to huong pagoda is a funny trip in your life. Because it is faraway 60 from the center city so you have to go by car or bus for around two hours before stepping to a wooden or iron boat to come to the temple complex.

The way to this temple is so complicated, you come to by boat journeys down a narrow flowing steam fringed by rice fields, you can pick up to pilgrimage place. However, if you do not have too much time you can head straight to Huong Tich Cave. Do note for you that you have to walk in one hour or over so i recommend you wear shoe to avoid slippery street.
